Guidance for management to justify and design project controls

SoftPMO Project Control Practices offers guidance for management to justify and design project controls. The material consists of control practice statements documented as activities which are based on the SoftPMO Project Management Guidebook.

The Project Control Practices describe the what, how, and why to setup for each control objective to improve project performance and minimize project delivery risks. This material is of use to:

  • PMOs, program management, and project management professionals who need to justify and design or improve project controls.

By providing direction on why controls are necessary and what practices will help to achieve project control objectives, SoftPMO Project Control Practices, helps ensure that programs and projects are likely to be completed and successfully delivered expected benefits.

The elements of the SoftPMO Project Control Practices, are:

  • Control practice—for the processes and control objectives in each project management process.
  • Risk consideration—provides descriptions of the risks that can be mitigated. They help both project professionals and PMO/Program governance managers provide a justification for control improvements and for substantiating the risk of controls not being adequately handled.
  • Monetary value—provides information to which demonstrates the value for deploying control objectives. Monetary value statements include statements of the business benefits that can be achieved from the control objective.
